The Peace Country team at the 2014 Alberta Games is coming home with 21 medals, including one gold, eight silver, and 12 bronze.
The lone gold belongs to Grande Prairie’s Kaelin Van den Bon, who earned first in her division in slalom canoe-kayaking.
She also got a bronze medal along with her canoe polo team.
Also on that team was Athena Huack, who earned another bronze in K-1 slalom and a silver in C-1 slalom.
The boys’ softball team, made up of players from Valleyview and Manning, took second in their tournament, while several track and field athletes from Grande Prairie also earned silver in sports like high jump, triple jump, and javelin.
Another multi-medal winner was Kelsey Wudkevich, who took silver in both high jump and the pentathlon.
The top swimmer from the region was Graham St. John, who earned silver with his four-by-50 metre free relay team, as well as bronze in three other individual events.
Fellow swimmer Nicole Goudreault of Peace River also came second in two events, winning silver in the 50 back and 100 back.
The Peace Country zone also grabbed the Spirit of Sport Award.
