UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP say the man peacefully surrendered around 1:35 p.m. He was taken into police custody without further incident.
Criminal charges are pending but the man’s identity has not been released. Police have thanked the public for their cooperation, and say the area is now safe.
A man has reportedly barricaded himself inside a house in the Mission Heights area. RCMP are asking people in the neighbourhood to stay in their homes and to avoid the area, as he may be armed.
Police were called to the home just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. They have contained the scene with Police Dog Services, and an Emergency Response Team is on the way from Edmonton to help with the situation.
Constable Gabrielle Spencer says there’s no indication at this time that someone may be hurt. Only one man is involved.
