Prepare for possible flooding from spring runoff

Earlier this week, a spring run-off advisory was issued for much of the province due to forecasts unseasonably warm temperatures.

Snow is quickly melting in Grande Prairie, and Insurance Bureau of Canada spokesperson Steve Kee recommends taking preventative measures to avoid any flooding.

“If you have some problem with a backup problem in your basement, maybe move some of those valuable items to higher levels in your home, and just make sure that snow and ice and your downspouts are cleared and move away from your house rather than grading towards your house.”

From an insurance perspective, Kee also recommends keeping an inventory of your valuables in the event of a loss, and making sure you have the right coverage.
