Wildfire hazard bumped to moderate

The province has upped the wildfire hazard for the Grande Prairie Forest Area to moderate ahead of the weekend. Wildfire Information Officer Melinda Paplawski says cured grass still poses a higher risk.

There is one wildfire currently burning in the region. It was sparked by lightning and is not expected to grow any further. Crews are working to extinguish it today.

So far this season there have been 47 wildfires in the area that have burned less than 10 hectares. If you see smoke in a forested area, call 310-FIRE.
