Students learn about farm safety

Canadian Agriculture Safety Week is coming to a close with students from La Glace and Ridgevalley learning about how to deal with some of the every day dangers on the farm.

Non profit organization Ag for Life hosted the Safety day event, one of three that took place across Alberta this week.

CEO David Sprague says raising the awareness of farm safety to rural children is important.

“Each of these kids here in Grande Prairie, I think all but one of them actually live on a farm.  So they are coming into contact with perhaps things that are a little bit more dangerous or things that they have to keep their eyes open for more than maybe their counterparts in the city.  So if we can raise the awareness and help them stay safe, then it is very important.”

Among the areas that were focused on were farm tractor, quad, animal, and powerline safety, as well as the dangers of not wearing a helmet.
