Generator thefts plague Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie RCMP are investigating a rash of stolen generators. Since the beginning of June, officers have gotten almost 50 reports in the city and rural area.

Many of the generators have been taken from the boxes of pickup trucks. RCMP are recommending owners try to prevent theft by putting them in an area that would make them physically hard to steal.

It’s also recommended to park vehicles and equipment in a way that makes it harder for potential thieves and to use chains and padlocks to attach generators to larger pieces of equipment.

Owners should also buy insurance, take photos of their items and write down their serial numbers. Anyone with information that could help police catch those responsible for the thefts is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers.
