Grande Prairie region’s wildfire hazard jumps back to very high

The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has been pushed back up to very high. Wildfire information officer Melinda Paplawski says the high temperatures and gusty winds in the forecast for this week means there’s a higher risk of a fire sparking.

People spending time in forested area are asked to be careful, as a fire could spread quickly under these conditions. Paplawski reminds residents to check the hot spots on their off-highway vehicles and never leave a campfire unattended.

The region is no longer under a fire advisory, meaning burn permits are being issued. However, any for the burning of heavy fuels will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
