UPDATE: Highway 40 fully open after two crashes

UPDATE: Highway 40 is back open in both directions.

UPDATE: A second crash is slowing down traffic on Highway 40. Around 3:15 p.m. a boom truck collided with a semi, four kilometres south of Musreau Lake Road. The crane on the southbound boom truck swung out and hit the semi in the northbound lane.

The driver of the boom truck was flown to the hospital by STARS Air Ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Traffic will be down to a single, alternating lane overnight so the boom truck can be inspected.

Both lanes have reopened from the earlier crash near Township Road 683.

Highway 40 south of Grande Prairie is still down to single lane, alternating traffic after a crash between two semi-trucks early this afternoon. RCMP say they were called to the collision near the Canfor Road around 12:30 p.m.

Only the south bound lane is open to traffic and police say drivers should expect delays in the area for the next few hours. One driver was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor, non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
