Former fire hall downtown for sale

The old fire hall downtown is officially for sale. The City of Grande Prairie has issued a request for proposals from private buyers looking to redevelop the 102nd Avenue building.

Located at the corner of 101st Street, it currently houses the city’s Community Social Development and Parks Operations departments, as well as Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue and the RCMP. If sold, CSD and Parks would be moved to the former Grande Prairie Public School Division office and other city-owned buldings. TSAR was already looking for a bigger location.

Manager of Economic Development and Land Brian Glavin says they will be ranking proposals based on price, economic impact, activity generation, environmental impact and experience. Bonus points will be given if the proposed development includes a retail store or restaurant that would bring in traffic outside of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. business hours.

The RFP can be found online. Proposals will be accepted until September 8, 2017. Glavin has said that if they don’t find the right buyer, the property could stay in the city’s inventory.
