Grande Prairie to experience partial solar eclipse

You may notice some empty desks at work this morning. Alberta will see a partial solar eclipse as 74 to 81 percent of the sun will disappear behind the moon. The last solar eclipse in Canada was nine years ago and the next won’t happen until 2024.

The eclipse will begin around 10:20 this morning and end at just before 1 p.m. this afternoon. In Grande Prairie, the mid-eclipse will be near 11:30 a.m.

If you plan on watching the eclipse, you must wear special eclipse glasses or; use a pin-hole camera. Do not look directly at the sun as that could permanently damage your eyesight.
