Wildfire smoke pushes in Grande Prairie region

The smoke rolling in to the peace country has Environment Canada issuing an air quality statement for parts of the region. It is being pushed into the province from British Columbia wildfires. Smoke is expected to be the worst near the BC and Alberta border.

The Air Quality Health Index is expected to stay low through areas today. On Friday morning, it was sitting at a 4 on the index which is a moderate risk. By Friday afternoon, it is expected to get to 5 on the scale.

People may experience some coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Kids and seniors are most at risk as well as those with lung disease, asthma or cardiovascular disease.
