Grande Prairie Forest Area fire advisory lifted

The province has lifted the fire advisory for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. That means Alberta Wildfire is again accepting burn permit requests, but Wildfire Information Officer Melinda Paplawski warns that permits for heavy fuels will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The wildfire hazard in the region is still high. Paplawski says some parts have gotten significant enough rain to reduce the hazard, but others didn’t get the same amount.

This season has been a quiet one, with only 33 wildfires burning a total of 5.75 hectares in the Grande Prairie area. By this point last year, 68 fires had burned nearly 140 hectares. None are currently active.
