Paving coming to 132nd Avenue

132nd Avenue will be getting paved from 102nd to 116th Street.

The tender was awarded in a special city council meeting Tuesday, along with an extra $350,000 for the work, to a total of $4.5 million.

Project Manager Karin Finney says commuters that take that route will have a safer connection.

“It’s a gravel road now, so we’re going to restructure it. We’ll put some asphalt, we’ll get some streetlights and some of the intersections, as well as traffic lights at the 116 Street and 132 Ave intersection.”

Curbs and gutters could eventually be added in the future.

Construction is expected to start after the August long weekend and wrap up in October.

Concerns about being finished on time were brought up by city councillors, and Project Manager Karen Finney says if they don’t finish by the deadline in October, it’ll be up to the contractor to cover extra costs.
