UPDATE: Air quality statement for Grande Prairie area ended

UPDATE: Environment Canada has ended the special air quality statement.

Forest fire smoke has moved to the area prompting a special air quality statement to be issued. Environment Canada says the smoke has been blown in from forest fires causing reduced visibility and poor air quality. It is expected to clear out by this evening.

People may develop symptoms like coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath. Others with health conditions may have increased symptoms and this includes children and seniors.

As of Sunday morning, the Air Quality Health Index was sitting at 2 which is a low risk. It is forecasted to reach a high level of 8 by the afternoon.
