Grande Prairie Forest Area under fire advisory

A fire advisory has been issued for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. That means no new permits will be issued, but current ones are still valid. Safe campfires are also still allowed.

The province says the advisory is needed due to the hot and dry weather in the forecast. Highs of 30 and 31 degrees are predicted in Grande Prairie for Thursday and Friday, and it looks like there’s no rain expected until Sunday. The advisory will stay in effect until the region gets a significant amount of precipitation.

The wildfire hazard for the area has been upped to high. People are asked to check for hot spots on their off-highway vehicles, and are reminded to never leave a campfire unattended. Call 310-FIRE if you see smoke in a forested area.
