B.C. sends Site C to independent review

The new B.C. government is asking the province’s independent regulatory agency to review the Site C project. The review is meant to figure out whether or not the $8.8 million hydroelectric dam in the Peace region is needed.

Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Minister Michelle Mungall says work on the project will continue, but no new contracts will be awarded. Landowners in the area also won’t be evicted at this time.

Sending the dam to the B.C. Utilities Commission was one of the NDP’s campaign promises. A final report is due by the beginning of November.
