Wildfire hazard sitting at moderate

The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie region is sitting at moderate going into the long weekend. Wildfire Information Officer Melinda Paplawski reminds people to have their campfires in appropriate places like fire rings or pits. She also says that people should make sure their fire is totally out before leaving the area. For back country campfires, people are reminded to make sure to only build one that is manageable.

There is one fire active in the region that is being held at 0.3 hectares. So far this season, there have been 28 fires that have burned a total of 4.93 hectares. Across the province, there has been 871 fires so far.
