Road closure as crews rebuild Highway 744 on Judah Hill

Highway 744 on Judah Hill, just outside of Peace River, will be closed for most of August and September as crews work to rebuild it.

Jasmine Franklin with Alberta Transportation explains the road was heavily damaged by a landslide last year, and this is the last step to stabilize and cover the roadway.

“We’re in the final phases here of the repair work, so we’re just asking people to hang on a little bit longer, and trying to give as much advanced notice as we can. We’re expecting the closure will probably happen around August 5th, so it gives folks a few weeks time to kind of get some plans in place for detours.”

Like when the highway was closed for several months last year, traffic will be redirected to Highway 2 and Highway 683.

The work is expected to be done by late September.
