RCMP searching for 15 year old swimmer

A 15 year old is missing after last being seen in the Smoky River. Spirit River RCMP were called to the water about 10 Kilometres from the Watino Bridge at 8:35 p.m. on Friday, July 28th.

According to the people the teen had been swimming with, he was caught by an undercurrent and pulled below the surface. Witnesses say he was able to get back above water before being pulled back under. He wasn’t seen after that.

Officers from Grande Prairie, Peace River, McLennan and Spirit River along with Peace River Search and Rescue and Eaglesham Fire Department responded. The search continues with a dive team called out to assist on Sunday, July 30th.
