Air quality statement remains in effect for Grande Prairie area

With smoke coming into the region, there is a few things to watch out for. The Air Quality Health Index for the Grande Prairie and Beaverlodge regions is now forecast to reach a maximum of 5 today. It’s currently sitting at 3 and is projected to dip back down to 3 overnight tonight.

A special air quality statement remains in effect for our region. Environment Canada says the smoke from the Bc wildfires has traveled over the Rockies but it could be flushed out by thunderstorms.

People could experience coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease like asthma are especially at risk.
