Grande Prairie well represented at 2014 Arctic Winter Games

The 2014 Arctic Winter Games kicked off over the weekend in Fairbanks, Alaska.

168 of the 241 athletes, coaches and cultural participants for Alberta North come from the Peace region, including 103 from Grande Prairie alone.

The international sport festival brings together people from Alaska, Greenland, Northern Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavik, Nunavut, Yukon, Russia, and Northern Scandinavia.

The games are considered to be “friendly”, and are an opportunity for each region to show off their talent in winter sports.
