UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning over

UPDATE: Environment Canada has ended the severe thunderstorm warning.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region, specifically in areas near Grande Prairie, Wembley, Sexsmith, La Glace, DeBolt and Sturgeon Lake.

Environment Canada says its meteorologists are watching a line of severe thunderstorms that could create damaging wind gusts more than 100 kilometres an hour in strength. As of 7:20 p.m., the Doppler RADAR saw it stretch from north to south through Rycroft, moving east at 70 kilometres an hour.

The wind could be strong enough to throw around loose objects, damage buildings, break branches off trees and even flip large vehicles. Residents should take precautions.
