UPDATE: Wildfire hazard in Grande Prairie drops to moderate

UPDATE: The wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie area has been lowered to moderate. Wind from the west is bringing smoke from the B.C. wildfires into our region.

As of Friday, July 7th, the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie area is sitting at high. Wildfire Information Officer Melinda Paplawski explains that after several warm days, the hazard has been bumped up. She warns people to be extra careful when heading out into wooded areas.

As there isn’t any fires burning in wildfire protection area for Grande Prairie, fires continue to rip through British Columbia with crews in 150 Mile House, at the Gustafson Fire and the Dragon Mountain Fire. There are fires that are posing threats to communities. There has also been places evacuated in northern BC.

If you notice a fire in a forested area, call 310-FIRE.
