Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Grande Prairie area

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie area. Environment Canada says that areas of Sexsmith, La Glace, Beaverlodge, Hythe as well as Valleyview and Little Smoky have conditions that are favourable for storms to develop. These thunderstorms could be capable of strong wind, large hail and heavy rain.

They add that an upper disturbance in Alberta and British Columbia may trigger the storms late this afternoon and into the evening.

Environment Canada reminds people that when thunder roars to go indoors.
