It’s been 13 days since a boater went missing on the Smoky River and efforts to find him are still underway. He was last seen on Saturday, June 10th, in the water near Riverstone Golf Course.
Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue teams have done several searches with RCMP, and air and boat surveys started up again today. Ground searches have again been suspended due to unstable terrain in the area and high water levels.
The missing man was in a canoe with two other women when it capsized. The three held on to a log for several hours before the women were able to swim to shore. They were found along the side of the river and treated for hypothermia. The man was too tired to follow them, but his friends have credited him with saving their lives.
Police are asking the public to stay away from the search area as they continue to look for the man. Anyone who has information that could help officers in their efforts is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers.
