Former police officer releases book this weekend

A former Grande Prairie RCMP officer is set to do a book release this weekend at the Coles in the Prairie Mall. Amanda Oling wrote the biography on her experience with losing her father to a drunk driver. He was hit by a 19 year old impaired driver in stolen welding truck while on his way to work.

After recently leaving the local detachment, Oling has made her life’s duty to spread her message. She says it is important to remember that every action you do has an impact on someone.

“I would love everybody to read this book. I have had so many people come to me that say “I haven’t realized the impact of my decisions before… it really made me stop and think.””

Oling says she goes through how many communities and people were impact by this one incident. She says it rippled into her life and to relationships more than four hours away in Lloydminster.

“In the book I talk about how I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder shortly after I left enforcement and dealing with that. I had to learn after everything again and that I am able to do this. I can make a difference in this world.”

Oling will be at Coles in the Prairie Mall Saturday afternoon for her book launch and book signing.

You can read more about her story on her website.
