One suspect in custody, one at large after Berwyn shooting

A woman from Grimshaw has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting in Berwyn. Peace Regional RCMP were called to a home around 6:30 a.m. on June 15th and found the shooting victim with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle but it was spotted by an officer on patrol at a home in Grimshaw later in the day. 27 year old Rebecca Rita Garnett was taken into custody, along with another woman. Staff Sergeant Brent Meyer says they are still looking for one more suspect in the shooting.

In addition to attempted murder, Garnett is also charged with aggravated assault, break and enter, possession of a break and enter tool, use of a firearm in aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, and prohibited possession of a firearm. She’s also facing three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in Peace River Provincial Court on June 19th via CCTV.

26 year old Tina Redekop of Peace River has been charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She will also be appearing in Peace River Provincial Court on June 19th.

Police believe the shooting wasn’t random and there is no further risk to public safety. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Peace Regional RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
