Fire fighter recruitment to benefit from TransCanada donation

TransCanada pipeline has announced a 100 thousand dollar commitment towards recruitment and retention of volunteer fire fighters in the province. Alberta Fire Chiefs Association vice president Peter Krich says the money will be used towards the creation of a Volunteer Fire Fighter Recruitement Week.

“Similar to what we do with Fire Prevention Week in October, where we advertise public education. This one will be focused on fire departments in our province recruiting fire fighters. We are sending the message within their communities, who their fire department is, who they are in that fire department, and what they are and what they actually do.”

Krich says recruitment and retention is a huge issue for volunteer fire departments, especially in smaller communities. The announcement was made at the end of the annual Alberta Fire Chiefs Association conference in Grande Prairie.
