Grande Prairie wildfire hazard drops to low

The wildfire hazard for the Grande Prairie Forest Area has dropped to low. Wildfire information officer Melinda Paplawski says the recent rain and cooler temperatures mean there’s less of a risk of a wildfire spreading, but warmer weather is expected to return. Anyone who sees smoke in a forested area should call 3-10-FIRE and campers should make sure to fully extinguish their campfires.

The wildfire advisories in the forest area and the County of Grande Prairie were both lifted on Friday. The County still requires a permit for any burning, and fires in the Dunes Natural Area are prohibited. The City of Grande Prairie requires permits for all open burning, burn barrels, and fireworks displays.
