Two rescued from island during MacLeod Flats evacuation

Two people had to be airlifted out of the MacLeod Flats area after flooding stranded them on an island. RCMP were called to the camping area south of Grande Prairie just after noon Saturday to help evacuate campers as river levels rose dangerously high.

When they arrived, several camping trailers were found wheel high in the river. Everyone in the immediate area was accounted for, but as the evacuation was happening, a small island formed around two people.

STARS Air Ambulance was called in to rescue them and they were both brought to safety.
