This Wednesday is Municipal Government Day.
The yearly event gives residents of Grande Prairie and the surrounding area the opportunity to get a closer look at the work of the various city departments and council.
City Councillor Chris Thiessen says it’s a full day of fun at Muskoseepi Park.
“We’ve got inflatables and bouncies for the kids, we’ve got some music performers. Of course we’re going to have our fleet services down there and I guess our RCMP, our EMS, and our fire department talking to people who are interested in checking that out. We’re also getting a fly-in from STARS, and of course we have our Youth Art Contest, we’ll be announcing the winner of that.”
The winner of the Good Neighbor Contest will also be announced on Wednesday.
Tying into Grande Prairie’s centennial celebrations and the city’s youthful demographic, the theme of this year’s Municipal Government day is 100 Years Young.
Thiessen says the city’s Youth Council has also come up with the Munio Games, a new addition to Municipal Government Day.
“It’s kind of an Iron Chef sort of theme where different politicians of the municipal stripes are going to be given a random selection of ingredients to make a smoothie. Whoever makes the best smoothie will proudly hold their head high.”
The event runs from 4 to 7 pm on June 11.
