Peace country awarded infrastructure, water grants

The County of Grande Prairie has been approved for more than $1.1 million worth of grants for water and infrastructure projects, while a single project in Wembley has been awarded more than $2 million.

The province announced today more than $534,000 to pave the access road to Saskatoon Island Provincial Park, repair a culvert near Demmitt on Highway 43, and fix up a bridge near Goodfare. The paving project is the largest overall, with the provincial government covering $234,350 of the $937,400 total cost.

On Monday, another $569,000 was handed to the County to help cover the Bezanson lagoon expansion and a waterline to the new Teepee Creek water treatment plant. The former will run a total of $534,000 with $400,500 covered by the province, while the latter has gotten $168,750 towards the overall cost of $225,000.

Wembley’s $3.2 million wastewater membrane bioreactor containers have also gotten almost $2.2 million from the province. Saddle Hills County received close to $1.2 million to upgrade its water treatment plant and expand its clear well, a project totaling $1.5 million.
