The 2nd Annual Healing Hearts Homeless Memorial is being held tomorrow afternoon. From 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, the Community Homelessness Action Team and the Healing Hearts Committee put on the event to remember those who have died while experiencing homelessness in the Grande Prairie.
The event will include the unveiling of a memorial bench as well as a BBQ to follow. It is a free event held in Muskoseepi Park near the train trestle bridge across from the Grande Prairie Live Theatre.
Homelessness Initiatives Supervisor Katherine Schmidt says there has been two deaths in the homeless community since January. She explains that the longer someone remains homeless the more there is a chance of mental and physical health becoming. She says this increases the chance of death.
