UPDATE: Unknown people seen taking blue bags out for collection

UPDATE: Aquatera says they have received more than one report from this morning, involving multiple people and vehicles.

An unauthorized person has been spotted collecting blue bags in Grande Prairie, prompting a reminder from Aquatera. The utility company has heard about someone in a red van picking up the recycling bags from curbs in the Poplar area.

Today is their regularly scheduled collection day, but Assistant Landfill Manager Sara Kaut says the person driving the vehicle isn’t employed by Aquatera, Green For Life or Prairie Disposal. While the person could be looking for refundable items, it’s also possible they’re on the hunt for personal documents.

Residents are reminded to keep anything that could be used for identity fraud out of their recycling bags, or have them shredded first. Anyone caught taking or rummaging through waste containers out for collection can be fined, and witnesses should contact Enforcement Services immediately.
