Road closure marks return of 68 Avenue twinning work

People trying to get into South Bear Creek Park or Country Club West won’t be able to use 100th Street for the next couple of months. Work twinning 68th Avenue started up again today, and the south part of the intersection with 100th is closed to traffic, along with a block south to 67th Ave.

The second phase on construction will go east and south of that intersection, and is expected to take up to two months. Traffic into the park and that neighbourhood can instead take Poplar Drive off of 68th Avenue or 63rd Avenue off of Resources Road.

68th will stay open in both directions, but the speed limit in the construction zone will stay at 30 kilometres an hour. Pedestrians won’t be able to use the intersection either, and signs for a detour will be posted.

The entire $8.8 million twinning project is expected to be done by late summer 2017. It was majorly delayed by rainy conditions last year and another $370,00 had to be added to its budget. Work on the bridge itself got back underway in late March.
