Canadian Cancer Society closes Grande Prairie office

The Canadian Cancer Society has closed its office in Grande Prairie. Executive Director for the Alberta North West Territories Division Chelsea Draeger explains fewer people have been using the physical offices over the past few years, instead interacting with the society online and electronically.

“Because of this, the financially responsible thing to do is close our physical space and redirect that investment to furthering our life-saving mission work: cancer prevention, research and support.”

They’ve also had difficulties keeping Revenue Development Coordinators on staff in recent years, but that isn’t cited as a reason. Other offices in Alberta have closed over the past year.

The society maintains it’s still committed to the community and people with cancer and the people who support them can still call toll-free at 1-888-939-3333, get support online at cancerconnection.ca, and use the wig lending program at 1-800-661-2262.

“We’re so thankful for the Grande Prairie community’s unwavering support over the years, and for their understanding as we close our physical doors in their community,” adds Draeger.

All programs in the community will continue to run and there will still be volunteer opportunities.
