Fort McMurray wildfire anniversary recognized

It has now been one year since evacuations from Fort McMurray and the surrounding communities from the wildfire began. Premier Rachel Notley was in the community Wednesday to recognize the sombre anniversary. While she gave her condolences to the families of the two people that lost their lives and those who lost their homes, she pointed out how it brought out the best in the community as well.

“I can I have been travelling in and out of Alberta and Canada for the last year. Everywhere I go people ask me about and talk about Fort McMurray. People from the U.S., China to Japan are inspired by you.”

Notley added that the province is close to completing its review of the fire.

“They are not complete as of yet. We expect that they will be in about two to four weeks. We will release those and engage as transparently and with as much accountability as possible.”

She adds that the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will begin their own once the provincial ones are done.
