A community kitchen in Spirit River has been given a prestigious award from the province.
The “Souper Seniors” group is one of three organizations and five individuals honoured at the 2014 Minister’s Seniors Service Awards, given to volunteers across the province who help improve the lives of seniors.
The community kitchen was founded in February 2013 as a way for seniors in Spirit River to get out of the house and socialize, as well as make healthy meals.
They take home a portion of what they make, and deliver the rest of other with mobility issues or living on their own.
It is sponsored by the local FCSS office, and in the future, it’s hoped young mothers can be involved as well.
