New fire truck for the city

With a larger area to service after annexation, the city is in need of another fire truck. With a cost of around 535 thousand dollars, the Type Three Fire Engine will be the Grande Prairie Fire Department’s. This engine is able to carry 500 gallons of water and will have space for ladder storage. It is hoped that this style of truck will help crews access rural areas better.

In August, the Long Term Capital Plan was amended from $200,000 to $425,000 to purchase the new vehicle. After sending out the tender, the cost came in over $100,000 higher. There was $25,000 moved from the Rescue Apparatus Capital Project and just under $86,000 from the Salmond Station Training Facility Capital Project to cover the short fall.

Although the Grande Prairie Fire Department was looking at a Type 6 engine, the larger vehicle was decided upon.

The annexed area covers over 6,000 hectares of land.
