Rescue crews used their skills to save horses that had fallen through the ice on Sunday. County of Grande Prairie firefighters from La Glace along with Hythe, Clairmont, the Dunes and Beaverlodge Fire Departments made use of their specialized training. Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue responded to the incident at Highway 43 and Township Road 114.
Three of the seven horses died after being saved. One of them died of their injuries from the other horses while the other two passed away from exhaustion.
