Name proposed for the Montrose Cultural Centre concourse

The city is looking at naming the public concourse at the Montrose Cultural Centre in the cree language. In collaboration with the Grande Prairie Aboriginal Circle of Services, the Mayor offered tobacco to an elder in order to contribute her recommendations. If the name passes, it would be called Mamowepiyah ota which means Gathering Place. It is pronounced Ma-Moo-Wee-Pih-Yah Oh-Tah.

The name will be presented at a committee meeting at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 18th. Planning is underway for the opening ceremonies of the concourse located on the south side of the building with a tentative date set for June 27th.

Included in the features of the concourse, there will be trees, shrubs and a large plaza square.
