Stompede tarp sales fall $18K

The Grande Prairie Stampede has seen the biggest drop in tarp sponsorships this year. An auction for eight of the stops on the 2017 World Professional Chuckwagon Association pro tour was held late last week.

The Stompede brought in $162,000, $18,000 less than last year. The high bid of $7,750 went to Chanse Vigen, followed by Obrey Motowylo and Layne MacGillibray at $7,500.

Overall, the auction raised $81,700 dollars than last season, which the WPCA blames on the economy. At the same time, it credits loyal tarp sponsors and new companies getting involved.

The final sale of the year will be May 5th. Grande Prairie is the first stop on the pro tour, running from May 31st to June 4th.
