$25/day child care pilot project coming to Grande Prairie

A preschool in Grande Prairie will be one of 22 to offer $25 a day child care as part of a pilot project by the province. There will be 28 spaces available at the Grande Prairie Regional College’s Children’s Centre Demonstration Preschool.

Premier Rachel Notley argues that too many Alberta parents struggle to afford quality child care, so the Early Learning and Child Care pilot centres will give the government an idea of how the 25 dollar a day program could be expanded. 61 spaces in Fairview have also been funded, along with 96 in Peace River.

ELCC Centres can offer flexible child care for parents who work part-time or shifts that are outside typical day care hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can also offer care in accessible settings like the one connected to GPRC.

According to the Children’s Centre Demonstration Preschool’s website, registration is normally $1,900 a year for full-time attendance.
