One person has died in a crash on the Alaska Highway. Dawson Creek RCMP responded to the two-vehicle collision near the Farmington area around 6 a.m. Friday morning.
Police say a southbound Dodge pickup crossed the centre line and hit a northbound Ford pickup. The Dodge driver was declared dead at the scene while the driver of the Ford was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Their names have not been released.
Highway 97 is closed in both directions and is expected to stay that way for several hours. A detour has been set up and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
A collision analyst and investigators are looking into the cause of the fatal crash, and at this point alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
