Warkentin pleased with passage of Fair Rail For Grain Farmers Act

Our country’s MP’s have officially passed the Fair Rail for Grain Farmers Act. It is designed to get grain moving faster by increasing transparency within the supply chain, and strengthening contract between producers and shippers. Peace River M-P Chris Warkentin says the bill has several long term, positive impacts for farmers, or anyone that ships items by rail.

“The increase in the availability for inter-switching, so that other companies can compete with the rail companies for the goods that are being shipped in the Peace country and throughout Western Canada. There is also a number of things in terms of the transparencies that are now included.”

Warkentin adds the bill also includes assurances to farmers that the grain or rail companies will be financially responsible if they do not meet their contractual agreements.
