Peace River breakup underway

It’s officially spring break up time in Peace River. As of Thursday afternoon, the leading edge of the ice pack had reached the south end of town.

Officials say the river is thawing quickly, and no issues are expected. However, residents are reminded to stay clear of the river banks and low-lying areas as water levels could fluctuate.

There’s always a risk of flooding when the river changes and any ice on it is considered unstable and dangerous.
