Volunteers off to clean up the Dunes once again this weekend

Volunteers will be busy out in the Dunes this week take part in the annual clean up of the recreation area.

Over the past four years, more than 350,000 lbs of illegally dumped garbage has been hauled out of the area.

ESRD Education Outreach Officer Blaine Burke says it’s disappointing to see the area abused that way.

“We’re so lucky to have a place that’s this close to the city, it’s minutes away and we can just hop off our truck and go for a ride. There’s nothing worse than having to drive through an area like that there and have it inundated with household garbage, where the majority of it is curbside garbage as well.”

The cleanup this year is June 7 from 9-2.

A free barbecue will be provided to all volunteers taking part.
