UPDATE: Drive-by shooting suspect pleads guilty

UPDATE: Bergeson plead guilty to some of his charges and was sentenced to 30 months in jail. He was given credit for 387 days served.

A man whose gun allegedly ended up in a young family’s backyard is on trial in Grande Prairie this week. RCMP say 32 year old Matthew James Bergeson led them on a chase across the city after shots were fired at D&E Recyclers in the Richmond Industrial Park on July 6th, 2016.

The suspect reportedly left after an altercation, and came back firing a gun while he drove by. Fortunately no one was hurt and Bergeson was arrested several blocks away in the Creekside area after ditching his vehicle.

He didn’t have a gun on him, and officers, Police Dog Services and Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue were dispatched to find it. Two children aged five and six spotted it in their backyard and told their parents without touching it.

The trial for various firearm and driving charges is scheduled for four days.
