La Glace, Peace River in finals for concert giveaway

Two Peace country organizations have made it to the finals for a Big Valley Jamboree concert giveaway. Both the La Glace District Agricultural Society and the Rotary Club of Peace River are in the top 10 of the Small Town Saturday Night contest, which would bring a mini festival headlined by Gord Bamford to their town on April 29th.

Proceeds from ticket sales would then go to local projects, like the regional recreation centre in La Glace or the Peace River Rotary House Project. The concert in 2012 raised $93,000 to build a new playground in Legal, and in 2013, $67,000 was raised for the town of Bashaw School Arts Infusion Program.

The winner is picked by online votes, and both groups have created videos for a final push. So far, La Glace is in the lead, followed by Peace River.

Innisfail, Rimbey, Viking, Rocky Mountain House, Ashmont, Drayton Valley, Duchess, and Crowsnest Pass are also still in the running. Valleyview and Falher also entered the contest, but didn’t make it to the final round. Voting is open until March 27th.
