Federal government approves Towerbirch Expansion Project

The federal government has now given the green light to a pipeline expansion that extends into northwestern Alberta. Minister of Natural Resources Jim Carr says the approval of NOVA Gas Transmission Limited’s Towerbirch Expansion Project comes with 24 conditions.

Those conditions were also recommended by the National Energy Board, and the B.C government’s approval last month included another 17 on top of that. The project’s assessment was done under a set of interim principles used to guide decision on major projects while the process gets an overhaul.

The $439 million dollar project stretches 87 kilometres from near Dawson Creek to Gordondale, largely along an existing system. It’s expected construction will create 750 jobs.
